Thanks for sharing Berhanemeskel! Good for you for moving across the world and going after your destiny. You should be proud of yourself, including when it’s difficult and hard!

I think when we’re young, we haven’t been hurt or criticized that much, so we are happy and free to be who we are. As we get older and have bad experiences it can make us afraid new bad experiences. I’m also a very sensitive person and have a lot of trouble with noise and motion, so I understand being over stimulated for sure!

For myself, I just think when I’m afraid of something, “Do I want what’s on the other side? Is it worth it for me to pass through this discomfort?” Often it is. And the more I do something, the easier it gets.

With your first days of teaching, or work, are you afraid of what they’ll think of you? I think it will help you if you can narrow down what your actual fear is, rather than just the occasion. Loving and accepting myself, as I am right now, has helped me so much in being happier and being more comfortable with people. If they don’t like me, oh well! I love myself and the right people also love me and I love them. 🙂

Keep at it Berhanemeskel. You’re doing great.

I used to be more braver as a kid in elementary and middle school but culture and maybe biology changed me to a quiet high school student afraid to talk to girls. After moving out of my country to live on my own in the US at age 30, I am still battling culture shock. As a teaching assistant, the first day to teach was always dreadful!! I am not good at introducing myself, talking about myself and as an HSP, I find first days at work, interviews and other events over-stimulating.
